The Cambridge Long Pond 18 Year Old 2005 vintage is an exceptional rum that embodies the rich heritage and craftsmanship of the Long Pond distillery. Established in 1753 in the Trelawny parish of Jamaica, Long Pond is renowned for its storied history and its association with the prestigious Hampden Estate.
The distillery’s modern era began in the 1940s when Seagram’s chief, Samuel Bronfman, acquired it from the Jamaican government, transforming it into the production site for the Captain Morgan brand. Following Seagram’s dissolution in the early 2000s, Diageo relocated Captain Morgan’s production to Clarendon, and Long Pond was incorporated into National Rum of Jamaica. This entity, formed in 1985, is currently part-owned by the Jamaican government, Demerara Distillers in Guyana, and Maison Ferrand in France.
Long Pond’s distillation methods are a blend of tradition and innovation, utilizing both John Dore pot stills and a Blair column still. This dual approach results in rums of exceptional quality and character. The distillery’s reputation for excellence has only grown despite periods of closure between 2012-2017 and a significant fire in 2018, making its rums increasingly coveted among connoisseurs.
